Crowns and Bridges

Restorative care at Radiance Dentistry aims to rebuild strength, balance and everyday function in a way that feels natural and considered. Under the care of Dr Dianne Proctor, we guide every treatment with ethical, evidence-based and compassionate principles, with a strong focus on inclusivity and personalised care.

When a tooth becomes weakened, damaged or missing, it can affect more than just your bite. It can influence how you eat, speak and maintain your oral health over time. Dental crowns and bridges are designed to restore that balance and reinforce the structure of your teeth so everything functions as it should.

What Are Crowns and Bridges?

A dental crown is a custom-made covering that fits over a tooth to restore its shape, strength and function. You can think of it as a protective shell, carefully crafted to support the natural tooth beneath.

A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is anchored to neighbouring teeth or implants, effectively ‘bridging’ the gap. This helps maintain alignment and prevents surrounding teeth from shifting out of place.

At Radiance Dentistry, we provide both traditional dental crowns and bridges as well as advanced CEREC same-day crowns, with every restoration thoughtfully tailored to you. We take a holistic view when planning your treatment. Dr Proctor considers your overall health, as well as features such as your skin tone, eye colour, hair colour and facial structure, so your result feels balanced, natural and uniquely yours.

Benefits of Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges can restore teeth and support long-term oral health and daily comfort. Like repairing a small crack in a wall before it spreads, these treatments can help prevent more complex issues later on in life.
Improves Function
Damaged or missing teeth make chewing uneven or uncomfortable. Crowns and bridges can restore proper bite function and help you eat more comfortably by distributing pressure evenly across your teeth.
Protects Teeth
A weakened tooth is more vulnerable to further damage. A crown can protect and support the remaining tooth structure while reducing the risk of fractures. It can also help the tooth handle biting forces more evenly.
Maintains Alignment
When a tooth is missing, nearby teeth shift into the space over time. A dental bridge can help maintain proper spacing and alignment. Dental bridges are designed to support oral health and make dental hygiene easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Teeth can change over time due to wear, damage or tooth loss. Dental crowns and bridges are designed to restore structure, function and balance when these changes begin to affect how your teeth work together.

Signs You Might Need a Dental Restoration

Dr Proctor may recommend a crown if you have a weak, cracked or heavily filled tooth, or if the tooth has undergone root canal treatment. A dental crown acts as a protective shell and helps support the remaining tooth structure.

We may consider a dental bridge when one or more teeth are missing. A dental bridge fills the space by anchoring to neighbouring teeth. Ultimately, a dental bridge can restore oral function and maintain alignment.

If you notice difficulty chewing, sensitivity or changes in how your teeth meet when biting, you may need a dental crown or bridge.

How Your Sydney Dentist Determines the Best Option for You

Choosing between a crown or bridge depends on several factors, including:

  • The condition of your teeth
  • The location of the concern
  • How your bite functions

We offer various materials, including CEREC dental crowns in Leichhardt.

Personalised Care, Built Around You

No two patients are the same, which is why Dr Proctor takes time to understand your medical history, preferences and any specific concerns you may have before recommending treatment.

For patients with anxiety, trauma history, sensory sensitivities, ADHD, autism or other neurodivergent experiences, care begins with listening. You may be asked about sensitivities to sound, taste or smell, as well as past dental experiences.

From there, we customise the approach to best care for you, all while creating a comfortable and supportive environment. Our process is collaborative, respectful and grounded in clear communication at every step so you can take an active part in your dental care.

Materials That Balance Strength And Aesthetics

Selecting the right material for a crown or bridge is similar to choosing the right material for a structure. It depends on function, location and desired appearance.

We use a range of modern materials, including:

  • High-quality ceramics designed to closely resemble natural teeth
  • Resin composites for specific restorative situations
  • Fibre-reinforced materials for cracked or weakened teeth
  • Gold crowns where durability and longevity are priorities

We do not place silver amalgam fillings. All material choices are based on clinical evidence and tailored to your individual needs.

CEREC Crowns: Modern Dentistry, Streamlined

CEREC technology allows some crowns to be completed in a single visit. Using digital scanning and on-site milling, we design and create your crown. It’s a bit like having a custom solution crafted while you wait, which helps reduce the need for multiple appointments. Not all cases are suitable for CEREC crowns, and this will be discussed with you during your consultation.
