Why Might You Need a Root Canal?
The inner part of a tooth can become affected for several reasons. Common causes include:
- Deep decay reaching the pulp
- Cracks or fractures in the tooth
- Trauma or injury
- Repeated dental work on the same tooth
You may notice lingering sensitivity, discomfort when biting or swelling around the gums. In some cases, symptoms remain subtle, which is why assessment matters.
What to Expect During Root Canal Therapy?
Your appointment begins with a conversation with Dr Proctor. She listens to your concerns, reviews your medical history and explains your options. She even draws illustrations of procedures so patients can better understand what to expect during the process.
Next, our team assesses the tooth, often using digital imaging to understand the extent of the issue. During treatment:
- We numb the area to support comfort.
- We access and clean the inside of the tooth.
- We shape and seal the root canals.
- We restore the tooth to support strength and function.
In many cases, we recommend a crown afterwards to protect the tooth.
If you experience anxiety, sensory sensitivities or are neurodivergent, we adapt your care to best suit you, including pacing and communication.
