Signs Your Gums Are Asking for Support
Your gums often give early signals when something isn’t quite right.
These may include:
- Bleeding during brushing or flossing
- Redness, swelling or tenderness
- Ongoing bad breath
- Receding gums or teeth appearing longer
- Movement in teeth or changes in your bite
If you notice these changes, a periodontal assessment clarifies what’s happening and what steps may help.
How We Care for Your Gums
Treatment is tailored to your needs and the stage of gum disease. At Radiance Dentistry, periodontal care may include:
- Professional cleaning to remove plaque and tartar
- Deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) to treat areas below the gumline
- Ongoing periodontal maintenance visits
- Personalised guidance to support your at-home care
Each step is explained clearly, so you understand what’s happening and why.
What Happens at Your Periodontal Visit
Your appointment begins with a conversation with Dr Proctor. She will listen to your concerns, review your medical history and take the time to understand your experience. She then assesses your gums, which may include measuring gum levels and using imaging where needed to evaluate the structures supporting your teeth.
If you experience anxiety, sensory sensitivities or are neurodivergent, we adjust your care to best suit you. We ask about sensitivities to sound, taste or smell, and pace the appointment to make it feel manageable for you. After your assessment, we walk you through what we find and outline next steps.
Periodontal treatment focuses on caring for your gums, which is the foundation of your smile. They quietly support your teeth every day, much like the soil that anchors a garden.
